Honestly it feels as though I’ve waited years for Jelly Bean to arrive. First there were the rumours of Jelly Bean, then the rumoured release dates, the rumoured additions and improvements. Then there was the inevitably disappointing list of which devices would be getting the update. I prayed for a new life for my Motorola Xoom, to see the buttery smoothness possess my tablet of choice, and then when Google bought Motorola and i thought now, surely now we’ll see it, but no a year has passed and still my tablet waits.
Luckily this is not the case for my fantastic mobile phone, the Galaxy S3. Samsung confirmed that S3 handsets in Poland could now get Jelly Bean via the Kies or through an over the air update. Why Poland? From there it will be slowly rolled out to the rest of Europe however there is no date for the UK yet. Needless to say, at this point i was already tired of waiting and the word ‘slowly’ just never cuts it with me.
So off to the XDA-Developers forum to find the firmware and upgrade my own darn phone.
I could write out the steps involved but it has already been done very nicely here
How to Update Galaxy S3 to Official XXDLIB Android 4.1 Firmware
It was literally a five minute process and yes it was worth it, if only to quench the burning restlessness in my soul.
Obviously I must just issue the usual warning that doing this can brick your phone, void warranty etc. Your choice. My phone rocks!
